Indianapolis literally means “Indiana City.” It has been the capital of Indiana since the 1800s and is the 12th largest city in the United States. When looking for a hotel in Indianapolis, look no further than the Holiday Inn. The unique placement of the Holiday Inn will allow a perfect view of the Indianapolis skyline, more so than any other hotel in the city. The city holds over 800,000 inhabitants and is found at the western part of the White River. The capital of Indiana is also the Marion County seat. There are many exciting happenings in and around Indianapolis.
Downtown Indianapolis is incorporating many new restaurants, new hotels, a new library as well as providing an expansion for the convention center and an up to date sports facility. These additions make the view from the Holiday Inn spectacular. The Holiday Inn is not far at all from the White River State Park which provides many hours of enjoyment for individuals, couples and the entire family. The White River Gardens can be found here. Also take some time out of the hotel to see the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, Indiana State Museum and the Indianapolis Zoo.
The best weather in Indianapolis is in May and June, followed by September and October. This allows people to step out of their hotel and not fear sunburn or dehydration. The Holiday Inn of Indianapolis provides a good spot to rest away the night, as the day is filled with visits to the home of President Benjamin Harrison, the Scottish Rite Cathedral or the Crown Hill Cemetery. Indianapolis is a great place to go with a rich history that cannot hope to be contained in one short web article. Exploring the city is the best way to find all of the treasures it possesses.
College students looking to Indianapolis for higher education purposes will need a hotel like Holiday Inn for lodging as they are surveying different campuses. The two largest universities in Indiana, Indiana University and Purdue University, share a campus in Indianapolis not far from the Holiday Inn Hotel. Cavanaugh Hall, the home of the School of Liberal Arts is an extensive and popular building for tours. Numerous other universities can be found in Indianapolis such as: Ball State, Butler, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Marian, Martin, Oakland City of Indianapolis campus, The Art Institute of Indianapolis, Vincennes Aviation Technology Center, University of Indianapolis, and the University of Phoenix.
The combination campus of Indiana University and Purdue University Indianapolis was brought together initially by the state legislature in 1969 and is a great place to visit after checking into the hotel. This campus is the third largest after the two parent campuses with 30,000 students enrolled. The Holiday Inn hotel is close to the campus allowing for surprise overnight parental visits or adventures off campus. The campus was built around the Indiana University School of Medicine. This campus also includes the Herron School of Art and Design as well s the Robert H. McKinney School of Law. A hotel party at the Holiday Inn seems likely when these two portions of the student body meet up.
The edge of the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis contains Butler University. Sports movie buffs and collegiate hopefuls alike can take a load off in the hotel after touring Butler University. The Holiday Inn hotel is glad to host sports enthusiasts looking to visit Butler, where the film Hoosiers was filmed and where the actual events depicted occurred. As recently as 2010 and 2011, Butler made appearances in the NCAA championship game. The Holiday Inn hotel is not far at all from the Hinkle Fieldhouse, historically the largest basketball arena when it was built, where the first game between the United States and the Soviet Union was hosted.
There are a number of interesting things about Indianapolis, independent of the Holiday Inn hotel. For example, there are eight sister cities all across the world: Campinas, Brazil; Cologne, Germany; Hangzhou, Zhejian, China; Hyderabad, India; Monza, Italy; Northhamptonshire County, United Kingdom; Piran, Slovenia; and Taipei, Taiwan. The Holiday Inn hotel is not far from these markers as one might explore the city to find them. Another interesting thing to do outside of the hotel is to explore the Indianapolis cultural sights.
Indianapolis has a number of museums and galleries which can appeal to any number of interests. All of these museums or galleries are in easy reach of the Holiday Inn hotel. Most notably is the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis which is the largest children’s museum in the world. The Indianapolis Art Center, Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art appeal to wide varieties of the art world. These artists can later take their conversation back to the Holiday Inn hotel. For fiction buffs, the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library is a great place to visit. The library is extensive enough it may take a while to explore everything. Therefore a hotel visit might be necessary.
The ever popular Indianapolis 500, held in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has been run since 1911 and can be found in the Indianapolis enclave of Speedway, Indiana. A race has been run every year since and always brings a crowd of racing enthusiasts to the Holiday Inn hotel. NASCAR enthusiasts may enjoy the Brickyard 400, also held in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1994.
Parks in Indianapolis are easy to reach from the hotel. Eagle Creek Park for instance is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The oldest park in the city is Garfield Park, established 1881 and is not far from the Holiday Inn hotel.
